About the Director
BRAHMANAND S SIINGH, FOUNDER-CHAIRMAN & CEO, MOBIUS FILMS
Brahmanand is a very unique combination of being an outstanding, multiple award-winning and well-recognized filmmaker, a vastly published author, a speaker, a visionary and an entrepreneur based out of Mumbai. He is the source of the vision, energy, drive and passion that Mobius thrives on.
Best known for his films like Jhalki: Tale of a Tireless Sparrow, a lyrical story of lost childhood, Kaagaz Ki Kashti, a biopic on legendary ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh and his National-Award winning (among many other awards and accolades) biopic on RD Burman, Pancham Unmixed: Mujhe Chalte Jaana Hai, which continues to enjoy a sweeping cult, critical and popular acclaim across viewing platforms.
"Life is a story we tell we tell to others and ourselves... make sure it's well-told!"
Singh often brings out insightful, exploring and reflective dimensions in the subjects that excite him, bringing out its core essence in a soulful and captivating manner. His next feature films Surmayee Shaam, Rumi’s Secret and some compelling web series initiatives are under development.
He has also initiated a few path-breaking ventures — a series of well-researched, grippingly-told, tastefully-presented and thoroughly-distributed Series of Biopics and a platform of compelling stories in the form of personal films under his wing called HighLife Films.
When we had set out to do Jhalki, we did have a vision and a mission to have it hugely circulated, create massive awareness for the cause of human trafficking and child labour, and make a difference through the film to the overall cause that people like Kailash Satyarthi have dedicated their life to.
Making the film was not easy, on many counts … and playing the regular, commercial release game was even more difficult. But what Jhalki the film has started to achieve may soon become a case study in times to come to firm up an emerging genre called Cinema for Change. For the first time in film history, we have an opening credit which lists Impact Advisors, who are taking the film to some of the most powerful International platforms where the film is shown, debated and spin-offs and action planned. The same is happening with the Mukti Karavan Association the Kailash Satyarthi Children Foundation (KSCF) and Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), which is taking the film to deep interiors in its own vans and also with tie ups with Picture Time, a most innovative way of reaching out into the interiors and giving everyone a multiple experience.
The best part is since the schools have found the film, after Taare Zameen Par, one of the most relevant films to have come to us in terms of creating Awareness, Responsibility & Action sense through entertainment. The film inspires the young minds who are excited to make a difference in their own ways and inculcate, through the film, in them, qualities of leadership – goal, focus, courage, patience, problem-solving mindset and an ability to relate abstract concepts with real life situations. NGOs are, in a slightly different ways, again helping us reach the films to their network.
Our grateful thanks to everyone who has helped us make the film and take the film forward into its purpose realm, most of all to our producer / co-producer partners and collaborators who have come forward to do their bit to help the film reach out to millions and impact change.
